This webinar will focus on strategies, resources, and approaches that school leaders can use to create more equitable schools, especially for unhoused and foster students. Anchored in the tenets of justice, addressing harm, and belonging, this session will introduce school leaders to essential knowledge, skills, and dispositions that can be used in today's schools.

Tyrone C. Howard

Professor, UCLA School of Education and Information Science; President, American Educational Research Association

Dr. Howard is the author of several best-selling books, a member of the National Academy of Education, and one of Education Week's 200 most influential educational scholars in the nation on education practice, policy, and research. He is a native of Compton, California where he also served as a classroom teacher. His research addresses issues tied to race, culture, access and educational opportunity for minoritized student populations.

Superintendent, Coachella Valley Unified School District

Luis R. Valentino, Ed.D., is a seasoned educational leader with vast experience in K–12 and higher education. He has been a bilingual classroom teacher, program coordinator, and site and district administrator. As Superintendent at the Coachella Valley Unified School District and previously as Chief Academic Officer at Portland Public Schools, he has dedicated his career to advancing equity and facilitating transformative change.

Executive Director of Secondary Education, San Rafael City Schools 

In his current role, Tyler Graff oversees middle and high school curriculum and instruction and creates systems that support unhoused students and foster youth within the school district. Next year, he will join the Ross Valley School District as Superintendent. He is completing his doctorate through Berkeley School of Education's Leaders for Equity and Democracy (LEAD)
